Asteroid 2025 OW and 2025 OL1: NASA Assesses Near-Earth passages
Breaking: Two asteroids, 2025 OW and 2025 OL1, are set for upcoming close approaches to Earth, with NASA’s Center for Near earth Object studies (CNEOS) confirming their orbits and assessing potential risks. While these events are routine, they highlight ongoing efforts in planetary defense.
Upcoming Asteroid Encounters
The celestial body designated 2025 OW, measuring approximately 64 meters in length, is scheduled to make its closest approach to Earth on July 28. it will pass at a distance of roughly 632,000 kilometers, a distance equivalent to about 1.6 times the average separation between the Earth and the Moon.
Following this, on July 30, asteroid 2025 OL1 will traverse the solar system. This object, estimated to be about 33 meters in diameter, will travel at a speed of approximately 27,000 kilometers per hour. It will pass at a distance of 1.29 million kilometers from our planet. although classified as “perhaps risky” due to its size and trajectory, its current orbital path does not indicate an impact risk.
