Quentin Griffith, a co-founder of the British online fashion retailer ASOS, died on February 9th after falling from the 17th floor of an apartment building in Pattaya, Thailand, according to local police. He was 58 years old.
Thai authorities confirmed the death of the British citizen, identifying him as 58-year-old Quentin Griffith. His body was discovered near a luxury hotel where he had been residing as a long-term resident. Police reported the apartment was locked from the inside, with no signs of forced entry. An initial investigation found no evidence of violence or criminal activity, according to reports to the BBC.
Griffith co-founded ASOS in 2000, alongside Nick Robertson, Andrew Regan, and Deborah Thorpe. The company initially operated as “As Seen On Screen,” selling clothing inspired by outfits featured in television and film. He stepped down from active involvement in the company after five years but remained a significant shareholder.
ASOS grew to grow a major online fashion retailer, offering products from numerous brands and its own lines. In 2025, the company reported revenues of $3.2 billion (2.72 billion euros).
According to reports, Griffith was involved in two legal disputes that may have contributed to stress. He was reportedly divorced from his second wife, a Thai national, and engaged in a legal battle with her over a joint business venture.
Police official Kosala Ngamphongas stated that the motive for Griffith’s death is still under investigation. Authorities have notified the British Embassy in Thailand regarding the incident. Griffith had entered Thailand on a tourist visa.
The circumstances surrounding Griffith’s death have been described as mysterious. Further investigation is ongoing.
