NC State Wolfpack Basketball Player Aims for Consecutive Most Improved Player Awards

As the NC State Wolfpack women’s basketball team gears up for the upcoming season, player Madison Jones is setting enterprising personal goals, aiming to follow in her teammate’s footsteps by earning the team’s Most Improved Player award for the second year in a row. Jones, reflecting on her transition from college basketball’s demanding pace and competitive nature, noted the meaningful physical adjustment, especially the introduction of weightlifting, an area she hadn’t previously focused on.

Now entering her second year, Jones is embracing a leadership role, particularly with the incoming freshmen class. She expressed her eagerness to “welcome them to the family with ease,” signaling a commitment to fostering a supportive team surroundings.

Head coach Wes Moore believes the programme’s recent success, including having two players selected in the first round of the WNBA draft, plays a crucial role in attracting talent. “We had two players drafted in the first round… that didn’t hurt,” Moore stated. “These kids have aspirations of playing at the next level.” He also emphasized the importance of the coaching staff and the team’s culture in player growth and preparation for professional careers. “I think our staff does a really good job working with these players and helping them get better and preparing them for the next level, and that definitely helps in recruiting when players see that,” Moore added.
