Crystal Palace manager Glasner Expresses Disappointment Over Transfer Window Inactivity

crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has voiced his frustration with the club’s lack of transfer activity this summer, admitting he was promised a more proactive approach to player recruitment. With only two new signings – goalkeeper Walter Benítez and defender Borna sosa – the Austrian coach fears a repeat of last season’s slow start.

“Even though all the players are still here, we haven’t made the most of the transfer window so far,” Glasner told Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung during the club’s pre-season tour. He added, “I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year.”

Glasner currently has 17 outfield players available and expressed concern about potential departures. “I hope we don’t lose any more,” he stated. “if that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible.” The manager’s own contract with palace expires at the end of next season, and talks regarding an extension have not yet commenced.

The club’s transfer strategy appears to be influenced by the potential departure of key defender Marc Guéhi. Liverpool have shown interest in the England international, but have reportedly been unwilling to meet Palace’s valuation. Guéhi’s contract is set to expire next summer, adding further urgency to the situation.

In anticipation of Guéhi’s potential exit, Crystal Palace are understood to be targeting Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP as a replacement. They are also reportedly interested in Bilal El Khannouss, currently with Leicester City.

Last season, Crystal Palace endured a winless streak in their opening eight Premier League matches. However, they ultimately finished 12th in the league and secured their first major trophy in years by defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup final, with Eberechi Eze scoring the decisive goal. The Eagles will begin their new campaign with the Community Shield match against liverpool on August 10th.
