Around 20,000 households were affected by the power failure

A widespread power outage struck Saarbrücken, Germany, Tuesday afternoon, impacting approximately 20,000 households. ​The disruption​ began around 2:25 p.m., plunging sections of the city ​center, Alt-Saarbrücken, and the Eschberg into darkness.

The outage originated from a fire at a substation on Werderstrasse in Alt-Saarbrücken, according to Stadtwerke Saarbrücken. firefighters responded to the scene,and utility crews are working to restore power,though the duration of the failure ​remains unknown.‌ The Winterberg clinic is ​operating on emergency generator power, while traffic signals throughout the urban area were reported to be non-functional. Retailers experienced varied impacts, wiht Karstadt department store completely without power⁢ and C&A continuing operations. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
