Apple Maps Rolls Out Detailed City Experience and 3D Landmarks in Austin Ahead of F1 Grand Prix
Apple Maps launches Detailed City Experience in Austin ahead of the United States Grand Prix
Apple rolled out its Detailed City Experience for Apple Maps users in Austin, Texas, this week, bringing 3D landmarks, sharper directions, and detailed circuit mapping just in time for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, Chron reported. The international race is scheduled for October 25 at the Circuit of the Americas, but race-week festivities across the city are already underway. The update matches similar mapping deployments previously launched for F1 events in Monaco and Melbourne’s Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.
The software update introduces precise 3D renderings of prominent Austin landmarks, including the State Capitol building, Sixth Street, the Paramount Theater, Q2 Stadium, the Blanton Museum of Art, the Congress Avenue Bridge, and Terry Black’s BBQ, according to reporting from 9to5mac. Beyond cosmetic improvements, the map upgrades enhance walking and driving directions by displaying clearer road markings and realistic elevation details. These enhanced visuals also integrate directly into Apple CarPlay.
Circuit of the Americas receives specialized mapping
The Circuit of the Americas receives the most granular attention in the new release, featuring accurately rendered track curves, admission points, and three-dimensional representations of pit stops and grandstands. Visitors attending the race can use the map to check temporary road closures, view rerouted traffic paths, and locate specific amenities such as grandstand seats, restrooms, and first aid stations.

Apple also partnered with Austin native and country singer-songwriter Dylan Gossett to curate a specialized guide for the city. The guide highlights local spots including the Circuit of the Americas—where Gossett previously worked—alongside the Moon Music Pro guitar store and his favorite local bar, the Armadillo Den.
Availability across devices and global expansion
The Austin upgrade places the Texas capital alongside other major metropolitan areas that feature the Detailed City Experience, such as San Francisco, Chicago, London, Houston, Dallas, and Miami. Users can access the new features immediately through the Maps app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Starting this year, Apple TV subscribers can stream all Formula 1 races at no extra charge.

For visitors traveling to Austin for the Grand Prix, Apple Maps features help them find their way around the event and check temporary road closures or directions.
The United States Grand Prix takes place on October 25 at the Circuit of the Americas. The updated maps remain active in the application for ongoing use in the city.
