Apple Launches AI Intelligence Testing in China With Two-Year Delay
Apple is rolling out its proprietary artificial intelligence tools for testing in China, arriving two years behind their initial deployment in the United States and facing a heavily crowded domestic market. The initial developer rollout began on Wednesday, while public availability is scheduled for December, according to a company announcement.
Apple Partners with Alibaba to Clear Regulatory Hurdles
The delay stems from strict local regulatory requirements and the prior unavailability of major training models within the country, including those from Google and OpenAI.
To strengthen its local offerings, Apple is collaborating with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba and utilizing its Qwen agents.
Features in Testing and Missing Siri Integration
The software currently undergoing developer testing includes tools for real-time telephone call translation, message summarization, and message verification.

Authorities Grant Official Clearance Following Compliance Mandates
Foreign technology companies operating in the region face stringent compliance mandates, including mandatory regulatory approval, local data processing, and the storage of user data on domestic servers. Apple secured the necessary official clearance from authorities in July.
Commercial Stakes Against Local and Foreign Rivals
Analysts estimate that the Chinese market holds over 110 million iPhones compatible with Apple Intelligence, creating a massive commercial opportunity coupled with intense competition from local manufacturers.
While Apple works to establish a foothold under regulatory oversight, several other major U.S. technology providers, including Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic, continue to restrict or outright block their artificial intelligence services for users in China.
