Apple iOS 27 and macOS 27: Unsupported iPhone and Mac Models

May 23, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Apple has confirmed that the upcoming release of macOS 27 will finalize the company’s transition to its proprietary silicon, effectively ending software support for all remaining Intel-based Mac models. The new operating system, expected to be officially unveiled during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in early June, will be incompatible with four specific Intel-powered devices.

The models slated for exclusion from the macOS 27 update include the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019), the 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020) featuring four Thunderbolt 3 ports, the 2020 iMac, and the 2019 Mac Pro. These four machines represent the final group of Intel-based hardware that maintained compatibility with the current macOS Tahoe.

The move to exclude these devices follows a clear timeline established by Apple during the previous year’s developer conference. At that time, the company indicated that macOS Tahoe would serve as the final software version to support Intel-based architecture. With the transition to macOS 27, the platform will become exclusively available to computers built on Apple silicon.

While the company has provided a clear trajectory for its desktop and laptop operating systems, it has yet to release the formal, comprehensive compatibility list for the new software. That documentation is anticipated to be shared publicly when Apple hosts its developer event. Industry observers note that while the Mac lineup is facing these specific hardware sunsetting measures, parallel reports suggest that iOS 27 may also discontinue support for four older iPhone models later this year.

Apple has scheduled the Worldwide Developers Conference to take place from June 8 to June 12.
