Apple announced the return of its Swift Student Challenge on Friday, offering students worldwide the opportunity to showcase their coding skills using Swift and compete for prizes, including a trip to Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California.

The challenge, which opens for submissions in February, invites students to build an app playground demonstrating innovation, creativity, social impact, or inclusivity. Apple plans to select 350 winners, with 50 designated as ‘Distinguished Winners’ who will receive a three-day immersive experience at Apple Park.

This year’s challenge builds on the program’s success in fostering the next generation of developers, according to Apple. The company highlighted the initiative as a key component in fueling innovation and providing students with valuable learning and networking opportunities. The submission period will remain open for three weeks, with winners announced on March 27th.

The Swift Student Challenge has previously recognized students for projects addressing a wide range of issues. Past winners have been celebrated for their work in areas from community support to global impact, demonstrating the program’s emphasis on socially conscious development. Students can receive the award up to three times.

Alongside the challenge announcement, Apple is also emphasizing the benefits of integrating SwiftUI into app development. A renewed push to incorporate SwiftUI is underway, with Cupertino serving as a focal point for developer sessions and demonstrations. This focus on SwiftUI aims to equip developers with the tools to create more modern and intuitive user interfaces.

Apple plans to announce the 2025 Swift Student Challenge Winners on March 27th, 2025.
