Four pedestrians were injured Saturday afternoon when a vehicle left the roadway and struck them on Compromise Street in Annapolis, Maryland, according to Annapolis Police Department reports.
The incident occurred shortly after 3:14 p.m. Near the intersection of Compromise Street, and St. Mary’s Street, police said. Investigators determined a vehicle traveling northbound on Compromise Street veered onto the sidewalk, hitting the four adults who were walking there.
Two of the pedestrians were transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries, while the other two were treated at the scene for minor injuries by Emergency Medical Services personnel, authorities stated. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was uninjured.
The crash prompted traffic diversions and delays on Compromise Street as police investigated. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes into the downtown area.
The incident comes amid a recent increase in pedestrian-involved crashes in Maryland. State Department of Transportation data shows a 23% rise in fatal pedestrian crashes over the past five years. In a separate incident Saturday, a 78-year-aged pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Dundalk.
Annapolis residents gathered in October 2025 to advocate for increased driver caution following the death of an 11-year-old boy who was struck by a car while using a crosswalk on his way to school. Earlier this week, on Tuesday morning, another 11-year-old child was hit by an SUV near Green Street Academy after running into the street, reportedly to record a fight between other children.
The Annapolis Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Saturday’s collision on Compromise Street.
