chloe Malle Named vogue US Editor in Leadership Shift for Anna Wintour Era
NEW YORK - September 2, 2025 – In a landmark transition for the iconic fashion publication, Anna Wintour has appointed Chloe Malle as the next US editor of Vogue. The move, announced today, comes ahead of New York Fashion Week, running from September 11 to 16, and marks a notable shift in leadership after Wintour’s 37-year tenure as editor-in-chief.
Malle,39,will assume the role of “head of editorial content,” overseeing day-to-day operations of the US edition. While she will report to Wintour, who remains global editorial director of Vogue and chief content officer of parent company Condé Nast, the change signifies an evolution in the media landscape, eliminating the editor-in-chief title Wintour held as 1988.
Malle’s appointment follows months of speculation regarding Wintour’s successor. She joined Vogue in 2011 as a social editor, progressing to contributing editor in 2016. Most recently, Malle served as editor of Vogue.com since 2023, directing all digital content and co-hosting the magazine’s podcast, “the Run-Through.” She is the daughter of actor Candice Bergen and the late french director Louis malle.
“Fashion and media are both evolving at breakneck speed, and I am so thrilled-and awed-to be part of that,” Malle stated. “I also feel incredibly lucky to still have Anna just down the hall as my mentor.” In June, Malle secured an exclusive interview with Lauren Sanchez ahead of her wedding to Jeff Bezos, which served as a digital cover story.
Wintour, 75, is widely credited with transforming Vogue into a fashion powerhouse. Her leadership saw the elevation of the annual Met Gala to fashion’s premier event and the 2022 debut of Vogue World, a traveling fashion and cultural event designed to broaden the industry’s influence.
