Top Morena Official Breakfasts in Luxury Tokyo Suite Amidst Political Absence

A high-ranking official from Mexico’s ruling Morena party was observed enjoying a lavish breakfast at a five-star Tokyo hotel, sparking questions about his whereabouts while he missed a crucial party meeting in Mexico City.

Opulent Stay in the Japanese Capital

Andy López Beltrán, Morena’s Secretary of Organization, was reportedly seen dining at the Okura Hotel in Tokyo alongside Daniel Asaf, a former advisor and associate reportedly involved in facilitating business deals for the López Beltrán family.

A night in an ambassador suite at the Okura Hotel, which includes breakfast, can cost approximately 57,620 Mexican pesos, according to the hotel’s official website. This revelation comes amid reports suggesting Asaf was a key figure in the financial dealings of a group referred to as “El Clan,” with his influence even reportedly surpassing that of Gonzalo López Beltrán, also known as “Bobby.”

Journalist Claudio Ochoa shared images on X showing Andy López wearing a dark cap and sunglasses during the Tokyo breakfast. The report from Latinus also suggests that “El Gallo,” a nickname associated with a Morena insider, was instrumental in orchestrating these business ventures.

Missed National Council Meeting

Andy López‘s absence from Morena’s National Council meeting on Sunday, July 20, in Mexico City drew attention. Senate President Gerardo Fernández Noroña commented on the situation, suggesting that López might be on vacation, similar to Ricardo Monreal Ávila.

“You don’t have to speculate with that… people have the right to rest.”

Three days after the council meeting, Ricardo Monreal Ávila confirmed his own vacation in Spain, citing a pre-planned family commitment. He asserted that his trip was self-funded and denied staying in high-end accommodations.

Luxury Travel Amidst Political Scrutiny

The revelations about Andy López‘s international travel highlight a growing trend of public officials engaging in expensive leisure activities. For context, the average monthly salary in Mexico was around 9,700 Mexican pesos in 2023, according to government data (INEGI 2023). This stark contrast underscores the significant financial disparity between the reported expenditures of officials and the economic reality for many citizens.
