Medical Professionals & Musicians Unite for Charity at 3rd Koryoin 2025 Hope Concert
GWANGJU, SOUTH KOREA – November 9, 2025 - A unique blend of medical dedication and musical talent culminated in a successful 3rd Koryoin 2025 Hope Concert held November 7th at haeoreum Hall, Chosun University. the event,organized to raise funds for vital community support,featured performances by medical personnel,established singers,and a commitment to providing healthcare to underserved populations.
The concert unfolded in three distinct parts. The evening began with performances highlighting the work of the Koryoin Clinic Band 2025, a group initially formed in 2018 at the Koryoin Festival by medical staff and Koryoin youth. Led by director Park Byeong-soon, the band has consistently combined musical outreach with medical service to the Koryoin community. The Koryoin Gwangju Clinic, established in 2018, provides weekly free medical care to Koryoins and immigrants facing barriers to insurance, and has grown to include 25 medical departments and 58 healthcare professionals – specialists, pharmacists, nurses, and medical students.
The second segment showcased medical singer Shin Se-won, director of Sehwa Obstetrics and Gynecology, alongside the Sehwa Sisters. Shin Se-won is a registered artist with the Federation of Korean Entertainment Artists and regularly performs at local events, offering both medical expertise and musical entertainment. The band performed popular songs like “twenty-Five and Twenty-One” and “White whale,” while Director Shin energized the crowd with a trot medley.
The final portion of the concert featured renowned singers Choi Seong-su, Sohyang, and Koo Chang-mo & Songolmae Band, bringing the evening to a rousing close.
Gwangju City Medical association Chairman Choi Jeong-seop emphasized the concert’s evolution. “Starting with the first concert in 2019, it has further developed into the second concert in 2022 sponsored by the Ukrainian Refugee and Koryo Clinic, and this third concert added support for leukemia and pediatric cancer patients and added more weight to the cast.” He added that proceeds from the first two concerts were donated to Ukrainian refugees and the Koryoin Clinic, and funds from this year’s event will be distributed to those same causes, and also the Rehabilitation Center for Women with Disabilities. “I hope it will be a place of deep memories for both Gwangju citizens and medical members,” he stated.
Held triennially, the Hope Concert directs all proceeds to charitable causes. This year’s funds will support patients battling leukemia and childhood cancer, the ongoing work of the Korean Gwangju Clinic, and the vital services provided by the Rehabilitation Center for Women with Disabilities.
