At the Asian junior squash championship, Indian athletes displayed their prowess, securing a gold medal alongside two silvers and three bronze, marking a significant achievement for the nation in the sport.
Gold Medal Victory
Aryaveer Dewan clinched the boys’ U17 Asian junior squash title. He swept to victory against top-seeded Nickhileswar Moganasundharam of Malaysia with a score of 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-3) in the final match.
Silver Medals Secured
While Ayaan Dhanuka in the boys’ U13 and Saanvi Kalanki in the girls’ U15 category put up strong fights, they both ended up securing silver medals. They lost their respective finals.
Saanvi was defeated by Malaysia’s Jinoreeka Ning 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 12-10). Meanwhile, Ayaan lost to the top-seeded Pakistani player, Muhammad Sohail Adnan, 3-1 (11-5, 11-2, 11-13, 11-6) in a tense title clash.
Bronze Medals Earned
The continental meet also saw Amarya Bajaj (boys’ U13), Aryaman Singh (boys’ U15), and Anika Dubey (girls’ U17) each secure bronze medals. All three reached the semi-finals in their respective events, contributing to India’s overall medal tally.
