Lima Film Festival Announces Record Peruvian Film Submissions, Highlights ‘Ramón and Ramón‘ premiere

LIMA, Peru – The Lima Film Festival (Festival del Cine) is underway, showcasing a record number of Peruvian films and hosting the premiere of Salvador del Solar’s latest work, Ramón and Ramón. This year’s festival features over 50 Peruvian productions, including more than 20 premieres within Latin American and national competitions.

the festival, wich began on August 9th, 2024, is being held across multiple venues in Lima, as well as in the cities of Huancayo and Arequipa. Organizers emphasized the unprecedented level of participation from Peruvian filmmakers in the selection process for the 2024 edition.

Ramón and Ramón, a Hispanic-Peruvian-Uruguayan co-production, is a central focus of the festival. The film, directed by Salvador del Solar, explores themes of family, acceptance, and reconciliation. It features Emanuel Soriano as Ramón and Spanish actor Álvaro Cervantes as mateo.

Del Solar described the film as a journey “towards tenderness, warmth and affection,” and an chance for self-reflection. The narrative centers on a young man, Ramón, reconnecting with his estranged father, also named Ramón, who previously severed ties due to his son’s homosexuality. The film also highlights the unexpected friendship between ramón and Mateo, who met during the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru.
