Dancers Flock to Auditions for AminataS “Big Girl” Concert
Riga‘s dance community turned out in force on September 14th for auditions to join singer Aminata‘s upcoming concert, “Big Girl,” at the Palladium concert Hall on November 1st. The “Space” dance studio hosted approximately 70 dancers aged 13-35, demonstrating both Aminata’s popularity and the vibrant dance scene in Latvia.
Choreographer Elisa Kazemak led the selection process, seeking dancers with strong learning abilities, professionalism, and versatility in various dance styles. Eight dancers were ultimately chosen to contribute to the concert’s choreography, enhancing the visual spectacle and complementing Aminata’s artistic vision. The selection committee also included Aminata herself, her manager Elizabeth Shukste, and choreographer Arthur Devel.
Aminata expressed her desire to make dance a central element of the “Big Girl” concert, aiming for a holistic artistic experience that seamlessly blends music and movement. This concert is being billed as her most aspiring yet, promising a full sensory experience with impressive scenography, lighting, and guest performers.
The concert will showcase songs from Aminata’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, “Big Girl,” set to release in October, alongside beloved tracks from her previous albums. The album represents a personal and artistic turning point for Aminata, exploring themes of self-acceptance, resilience, and personal growth. Early singles like “Anyway,” “Opinion,” and her collaboration with zeļģi, “For non-return,” offer a glimpse into the album’s layered exploration of relationships, public perception, and inner strength.
The auditions and the “Space” studio’s diverse offerings – encompassing styles from hip hop and house to contemporary and voguing – highlight the thriving cultural life in Riga, providing opportunities for dancers of all ages and experience levels to engage with the arts.
