Amazon Ends Support for Certain Kindle Models
Amazon has discontinued support for a series of its Kindle e-reader devices.
This transition occurs alongside the release of a new generation of hardware introduced on October 17, 2024. The updated lineup includes new versions of the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Scribe, as well as the introduction of the Colorsoft model.
New Hardware Specifications
The Kindle Colorsoft is the first e-reader in the Kindle family to feature a color e-ink display. The device employs LED technology to enable automatic brightness adjustments and offers a battery life of nearly two months. It’s available in a standard 16GB storage version and a Signature Edition that increases storage capacity to 32GB. The pricing for the Colorsoft is approximately 280 EUR.
The Kindle Paperwhite has been updated with a 7-inch display, made possible by the use of thinner bezels. Amazon reports that the device is 25% faster than previous iterations and features improved contrast. The model remains water-resistant and utilizes USB Type-C for charging, with a price point of roughly 160 EUR.
The base Kindle model, now in its 12th generation, features a 6-inch display. This version includes a 25% increase in brightness and improved page-scrolling speeds. It offers a battery life of approximately three months and is priced around 110 EUR.
The new range of devices generally features increased processing speeds and a 16GB storage capacity across several models.
The updated Kindle devices are scheduled for delivery before the holiday season.
