Alvin Tedjo Elected as New Mayor of Mississauga

Alvin Tedjo Elected as New Mayor of Mississauga

October 27, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Alvin Tedjo will become the next mayor of Mississauga after decisively defeating Carolyn Parrish and Bonnie Crombie in the municipal election held Monday, October 26, 2026, cp24.com reported.

With nearly 97 per cent of the ballots tallied, Tedjo secured more than 39 per cent of the vote. That performance gave him a margin of more than 21,000 votes over Parrish, who finished second with 27 per cent. Crombie followed in third place with approximately 22 per cent of the electorate’s support.

Mississauga Elects a New Mayor Amid Economic Pressures

Surrounded by cheering supporters on election night, Tedjo framed the outcome as a mandate for administrative overhaul. “Mississauga has voted for change,” Tedjo told the crowd. He thanked his opponents for a challenging contest and promised to execute a comprehensive platform designed to alter how city hall operates. He also acknowledged that it was a tough race and thanked incumbent Parrish for her service, as well as other contender Dipika Damerla. He further stated, Today, the city of Mississauga has made a clear and historic choice to demand a change at city hall. My friends, it is beyond a doubt the honor of a lifetime to stand here as your next mayor of the city of Mississauga. This is a tremendous responsibility that I do not take lightly. He added, Over the course of this campaign, we put forward a comprehensive vision of how we would do things differently and deliver real, meaningful changes that would affect people’s lives for the better, and noted, Now we will begin the difficult work of making our plan a reality.

The contest played out against a backdrop of financial strain for local households. Parrish pointed directly to economic headwinds as a factor in her defeat. “Not promising all the treats that people are looking for, not alleviating their pressure during a bad period in our economic history was my mistake,” Parrish told supporters after conceding. She added that the preceding two and a half years had been far from normal. Parrish stated that another four years was not in the cards for her, noting, We haven’t had a normal two and a half years. These are tough times that we’re living in, and mentioned that she should have simplified her message.

Tedjo Promises Property Tax Freeze and Senior Rebates

Tedjo campaigned on a platform centered on cost relief for residents. His commitments include a two-year city-wide residential property tax freeze on the municipal portion of tax bills, alongside an expanded property tax rebate for seniors. He has also pledged to lower financial barriers for families accessing municipal recreation and community programs.

Bonnie Crombie was among the first to acknowledge the result, placing a congratulatory call to Alvin Tedjo shortly before CP24 projected the win. “Alvin, your energy, your enthusiasm, and the joy you bring to politics matter,” Crombie said publicly, adding that he had inspired people to get involved and believe they can help shape the city’s future. Crombie also thanked her family and supporters, stating, Serving Mississauga has been the honour of my life.

Tedjo takes office as he transitions from his seat on council—held since 2022—to the mayor’s chair. The 41-year-old father of three came to Canada when he was four years old. Parrish noted that the incoming mayor faces a demanding agenda, offering a parting piece of advice: “He’s gonna have a tough job ahead of him, and he can pick up the phone and call me anytime, and I’ll tell him what not to do.”
