Aljamain Sterling Calls for Title Shot ‌After Win,​ Eyes Volkanovski Bout

Following‌ a recent victory,‌ Aljamain Sterling is ⁤campaigning for a title fight against UFC ‍featherweight champion⁤ alexander Volkanovski. sterling addressed perceptions ⁤of his fighting style, stating, “Guys ⁣think I can’t box, they think I can’t kick. Prior to that, ⁤he had a notable rivalry with Petr Yan, winning their first two‌ encounters via⁤ disqualification‍ and unanimous decision, respectively,⁣ before Yan⁤ won their third fight ​by​ unanimous decision.

His recent win comes after a loss ⁢to‌ Movsar Evloev in a previous outing. Despite the setback, sterling believes ⁤he presents a compelling matchup for Volkanovski,‍ 36, suggesting, “They’ve done that⁣ for many guys in the past.”

Sterling⁢ positioned himself as an alternative to‍ lerone Murphy,who is also considered a potential challenger to Volkanovski following a knockout victory over Aaron Pico at UFC 319. “I wouldn’t be surprised if [Volkanovski] ​fights Lerone next,” Sterling said. “That was a great fight for him. In terms of​ his performance, ‍I think‍ Lerone has earned it, but if the ‌UFC wants to⁢ throw⁣ my hat ‍in there, I’m not going to say no if they give ​me an prospect.”
