Algerian Students Claim Gold at Moscow Mathematics Olympiad, President Tebboune extends Congratulations
MOSCOW – An Algerian student team has secured first place at the International Mathematics Olympiad held in Moscow, prompting congratulatory remarks from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The team, comprised of Ben Melouka Mohamed Amir, Ait Hamdouch Haitham, Boufedjighen Abdelnasser, and Hammadi Abdelilah, all students at the National higher School of mathematics, distinguished themselves amongst international competitors.
The victory arrives at a pivotal moment for Algerian education,following President Tebboune’s recent expression of concern regarding declining enrollment in mathematics programs. During a visit to Constantine ten days prior, he noted that only 3% of students passed the mathematics portion of the Baccalauréat exam.This win underscores the potential of focused investment in specialized educational institutions like the National Higher School of Mathematics, which opened in Sidi Abdallah, Algiers, during the 2021/2022 academic year as part of a broader initiative to expand Algeria’s higher education offerings.
