Alcaraz Defeats Djokovic in Straight Sets, Reaches US Open Final
NEW YORK – September 5, 2025 – Carlos Alcaraz continued his dominant run at the US Open, defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-4, 7-6, and securing his place in the final for the third Grand Slam tournament in a row. The victory marks the second time alcaraz has bested Djokovic without dropping a set.
Alcaraz initially took control, earning an early break and maintaining a lead throughout the frist set. The second set proved more competitive, requiring a tiebreak, but Alcaraz ultimately prevailed. Djokovic received treatment for his right shoulder during the match.The Spaniard’s aggressive play and strong first serve – winning 84% of points behind it – proved decisive against one of the game’s best returners. Alcaraz held a break advantage from the fourth game of the third set,confidently closing out the match.
This marks Alcaraz’s third consecutive Grand Slam final appearance. He previously faced Jannik Sinner in the championship match six times, winning five of those encounters. A potential rematch with Sinner looms, but the Italian must first overcome Félix Auger-Aliassime in the other semifinal.
Alcaraz and Djokovic had previously met at Grand Slams in Melbourne and Paris, with Djokovic winning both encounters. Alcaraz had previously defeated Djokovic in the Wimbledon finals in 2023 and last year.
This semifinal loss represents Djokovic’s fourth Grand Slam defeat in the semifinals this year, following losses to Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open and Jannik Sinner at the French Open and Wimbledon.
