Affinity suite Now Free, Forever, following Canva Acquisition
In a stunning move that upends teh conventional software pricing model, Affinity – a professional-grade creative suite often cited as a leading alternative to Adobe Creative Suite – is now available to download and use wholly free of charge, for life. The declaration, made during a press conference, marks a important shift towards democratizing access to powerful design tools.
Previously, individual Affinity applications cost around sixty euros each. Now, a unified request encompassing all tools is available without cost. “We want to give freedom back to creatives. Affinity is now completely free, for everyone, forever,” stated Ash Hewson,CEO of Affinity.
The decision aligns with the ideology of Canva, which acquired Affinity earlier this year, aiming to bridge the gap between professional designers and everyday creators. According to Hewson, the move represents “the meeting of two powerful platforms to redefine the future of professional design.”
Affinity promises to maintain the software’s functionality and precision despite the change in pricing. “Affinity remains a tool designed by and for designers. We do not intend to simplify or transform it, only to make it accessible,” Hewson emphasized.
The integration between the two platforms is already underway, with users now able to export creations from Affinity to Canva for sharing, adaptation, and online publication.Canva’s Premium users also gain access to some of its artificial intelligence features, such as generative fill and image generation, directly within Affinity via an integrated studio.
The move signals a commitment to unifying the design world, offering professional-quality tools to students, freelancers, teachers, and enthusiasts alike – without financial barriers. While the long-term impact of this free access remains to be seen, the immediate effect is a dramatic expansion of access to industry-standard creative software.
