A scheduled appearance by Dick Van Dyke was canceled, as his wife, Arlene Silver, explained to an awaiting audience that the legendary actor was unfortunately not feeling well enough to attend the celebration.
Wife Addresses Van Dyke’s Condition
Arlene Silver took the stage to deliver the news. “I have to tell you that Dick is unable to come and celebrate with us today,”
she announced, adding, “I’m sorry.”
She continued to explain the circumstances, saying, “If you are 99.5 years old, you have good and bad days,”
and “And unfortunately is not a good day for him today. He is sick that he cannot be there.”
The specific nature of Van Dyke’s health issues remains undisclosed.
According to the National Council on Aging, falls are a leading cause of injury and death from injury among older Americans, and more than one out of four older adults falls each year (NCOA.org).
A Legacy of Fitness
Van Dyke’s career includes roles in classics such as Bye Bye Birdie, Mary Poppins, and Days of Our Lives. Last year, the actor told E! News that he maintains his fitness by regularly going to the gym.
“I have always exercised three days a week. I also train with weights and on the treadmill and try to sustain that,”
Van Dyke stated.
