Participation in the 340B Rebate Pilot Starting January 1 2027
The federal 340B program assists hospitals and clinics serving low-income patients in purchasing medicines at a discount. Under the new model tested in the pilot, eligible healthcare providers will submit claims through a platform known as Beacon. This process is designed to obtain 340B pricing on AbbVie medications including the cancer drug Imbruvica, the irritable bowel syndrome treatment Linzess, and the antipsychotic drug Vraylar, reuters.com reported.
AbbVie stated that it will provide participating healthcare groups with free access to the Beacon system. The company also committed to offering customer service and specialized assistance for providers encountering operational difficulties during the rollout. Throughout the process, AbbVie plans to work closely with federal health regulators and healthcare providers.
Rebate Test Aims to Improve Pricing Transparency
The rebate test aims to improve pricing transparency and prevent duplicate discounts as new Medicare-negotiated drug prices take effect, according to the company. Beyond AbbVie, the federal pilot includes other pharmaceutical companies. Amgen, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Bristol Myers Squibb are among the firms approved for participation in the initiative, reuters.com reported.
