A1 Motorway in Hamburg Reopens After Complete Closure
Hamburg, Germany – September 23, 2025 – The A1 motorway in Hamburg has fully reopened following extensive repair work conducted during a complete closure. Autobahn gmbh utilized the shutdown to rehabilitate the road surface within the Moorfleet tunnel and simultaneously replace transition constructions on the Norderelbbrücke.
The critical artery, which carries 131,000 vehicles daily, was closed to facilitate the replacement of expansion joints on the Norderelbbrücke. These steel elements are essential for accommodating thermal expansion and contraction of the bridge deck, ensuring its structural integrity.The A1 serves as a vital link between the Baltic Sea region and the Port of Hamburg, making its continued operation crucial for regional and national logistics. DEGES, the project company, identifies the A1 as one of Germany’s most heavily trafficked motorways.
Motorists can expect normal traffic flow as of today, though residual delays are possible.The repairs are intended to prevent future disruptions and maintain the long-term safety and efficiency of this key transportation corridor.
