A decade-long initiative bringing Quebec culture and song into classrooms is celebrating a milestone, with over 300,000 children impacted by the program last year alone. The project, designed to foster appreciation for local artists and music among young students, has evolved to include educational resources for teachers and song lyric books available to the public.
Launched 10 years ago, the program stemmed from a desire to provide schools with tools to engage students with Quebec’s artistic heritage. Michel Vallée, president and chief of culture for the organization, emphasized the initiative’s goal: “We wanted to give schools an additional tool to be able to talk about Quebec culture and foam Quebec song.” A dedicated educational notebook has been developed in recent years to support educators, and song lyric books are now sold in bookstores.
This year, the program features the work of Sarahmée, whose book *High hearts!*-illustrated by Niti Marcelle Mueth and published by Youth editorial-is aimed at children aged six and up. The initiative’s success is evidenced by its reach, with more than 300,000 students participating in a song-based activity at school last year, according to Vallée.
