LausanneS vibrant underground arts scene culminated Sunday evening with teh closing of the 24th Lausanne Underground Film & Music Festival (LUFF), celebrating independent cinema and sonic exploration. The festival awarded its international feature film prize to Alexander Phillips’ “Anything That Moves,” marking the end of a four-day event packed with diverse artistic expression.
This year’s LUFF showcased a robust program of 92 film screenings and 21 sound performances, drawing artists and audiences to venues across Lausanne. The festival serves as a crucial platform for emerging and established avant-garde filmmakers and musicians, fostering a unique creative community and offering a space for boundary-pushing work. Organizers have already set their sights on the next edition, planned for October 2026.
From Wednesday through Saturday, the Montbenon casino, Bellevaux cinema, EJMA auditorium, and humus gallery hosted 93 artists presenting a wide range of mediums – from cinematographic productions and radio creations to workshops, artist talks, and signing sessions.
The jury praised “Anything That Moves,” filmed in 16mm, for embodying “from start to finish the spirit of underground cinema of which LUFF is the home,” according to a statement released by the festival. In the short film category, J Triangular’s “The Martial Forest” received the award for Best Experimental Short Film, among five distinctions given to short-form works.
