Sergio Garcia will defend his title at the HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong tournament, beginning March 5th at the Hong Kong Golf Club at Fanling, as the event enters its third consecutive year.
The tournament, elevated by a landmark title partnership with HSBC, transforms the historic venue into a festival of sport, music, and local culture. This year’s event will feature Major champions Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Garcia, according to event organizers.
Established in 1889, the Hong Kong Golf Club at Fanling is one of Asia’s oldest and most revered golf institutions, having hosted more elite-level tournaments than any other club in the region. For over six decades, championship golf has been central to the club’s identity. In addition to hosting HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong, the club has hosted the Hong Kong Open every year since 1959, making it Hong Kong’s oldest professional sporting event. Since 2023, the course has also hosted an event within the Asian Tour’s International Series.
The 2026 season marks a shift for LIV Golf, adopting a 72-hole format. The Hong Kong event will feature an electric fan village, engaging activations, a culinary experience curated by Michelin-starred chefs, and performances by international DJs, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a key stop on the League’s international calendar.
Anthony Kim, fresh off a victory at LIV Golf Adelaide, described the course as strategically challenging. “It’s one of the shorter courses we play but it’s strategic,” Kim said. “You have to pay close attention to every single shot.”
Nick Pugh, caddie for Ripper GC’s Lucas Herbert, emphasized the course’s traditional character and precision requirements. “It’s lovely,” Pugh said. “I’ve been coming here for years and years. I started out caddying here on the Asian Tour in Hong Kong with the old Hong Kong Open and it just has a real traditional feel to the golf course. It’s more of an old school tree-lined layout. The golf course is short but it’s not possible to overpower it. There’s a lot of doglegs and precision is the key around this place.”
The tournament will open with a cultural performance by the Hong Kong Ballet, featuring an excerpt from Artistic Director Septime Webre’s award-winning Romeo & Juliet, set to Bruno Mars’ “I Just Might.”
Dom Dolla is scheduled to headline the concert experience on Saturday, blending festival energy with Hong Kong’s club culture.
