Ruben Van Gucht’s ‘Komen Eten’: Home Tour, Hosting & Behind the Scenes | News Roundup

The premiere of the new season of the Belgian reality television show Komen Eten, airing Monday on Play, was marked by controversy as host Ruben Van Gucht implemented a strict cleanliness policy for his guests. Van Gucht, a sport journalist and presenter, requires all diners to wear slippers provided by the show while inside his home.

According to reports, Van Gucht’s obsession with cleanliness extends to daily deep cleaning, reportedly mopping floors “four to five times a day.” He explained his reasoning, stating, “If you proceed somewhere to eat, you want to be in a clean environment, right? That reflects on the quality of your plate.”

The unusual requirement has drawn criticism, with some viewers and commentators questioning the host’s hospitality. One report described the atmosphere as becoming “uncomfortable” upon the arrival of the first guest, Olga Leyers. Van Gucht also reportedly intends not to offer Leyers a drink upon her arrival.

This season of Komen Eten features a new format, pairing celebrities in less predictable combinations. Van Gucht will be joined by Dorien Nuyts, who will host her portion of the show at her frituur, Frituur Congé, offering a traditional Belgian fries experience. The show aims to showcase the diverse personalities and culinary skills of Belgian celebrities.

The production team reportedly enlisted assistance to prepare Van Gucht for his hosting duties, with an unnamed individual working “behind the scenes.” The show’s producers faced challenges convincing celebrities to participate, as some were hesitant to reveal their homes on television.
