Iran Attacks: Middle East Conflict Escalates – Airports Closed & Travel Disrupted

Iran launched a new barrage of missiles toward Israel on Monday, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), as the conflict escalated following U.S. And Israeli strikes within Iran. Preliminary alerts were sent to mobile phones in affected areas, the IDF stated.

The escalating violence follows a series of attacks and counterattacks that began after the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in recent strikes. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the war in Iran would not be “endless,” and that the U.S. Goal was not regime change.

Sirens sounded in Bahrain, prompting the country’s Ministry of Interior to urge residents to “remain calm and head to the nearest safe place,” according to a post on X. Explosions were also reported in cities including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha.

The conflict has resulted in casualties across the region. Iranian officials reported more than 550 people killed in the initial strikes within Iran, while eleven deaths were reported in Israel. Deaths have also been reported in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Four U.S. Service members were killed in attacks, and three U.S. Fighter jets were mistakenly downed by Kuwait.

At an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council on Saturday, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the U.S. And Israeli airstrikes. Iran’s ambassador to the U.N., Amir Saeid Iravani, told the council that hundreds of civilians had been killed and wounded. The U.S. And Israel clashed with Iran during the meeting, with the Israeli ambassador stating that Iran was responsible for escalating actions through its proxies and its nuclear and missile programs.

Ali Larijani, Iran’s top national security official, vowed “we will not negotiate with the United States,” despite President Donald Trump’s assertion that Iranian officials were seeking talks. This position was reiterated as the conflict intensified.

The war has caused significant global disruption, including a sharp rise in oil prices and widespread flight cancellations and airport closures as countries scramble to evacuate their citizens from Gulf states. President Trump warned of more U.S. Casualties and stated he would not rule out sending U.S. Troops into Iran if “necessary.”

Pentagon briefers reportedly acknowledged to congressional staff that Iran was not planning to strike U.S. Forces unless Israel attacked Iran first, a claim that undercuts the administration’s justification for launching the strikes. The United Kingdom stated it played no role in the strikes against Iran.
