Luxembourg and Belgium are the first hurdles for Scotland’s Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign, beginning next month. The Scots, managed by Melissa Andreatta, will face Luxembourg on March 3rd and again on March 7th, with the second match played at Hampden. The initial match in Luxembourg represents a significant step in the qualification process for the 2027 tournament in Brazil. Luxembourg, currently ranked 108th in the world, were recently promoted to League B of the UEFA Women’s Nations League after an unbeaten run in their group, defeating Kazakhstan, Armenia and Liechtenstein. Following the double-header against Luxembourg, Scotland will then turn their attention to Belgium in April. Scotland have a relatively even historical record against the Belgians, with five wins, three draws, and five losses in 13 previous encounters. Their most recent matches, both played in the 2023 Nations League A, ended in 1-1 draws – one at Hampden and the other in Leuven. The first of the April matches will be held at Easter Road, with the return fixture taking place at Den Dreef in Belgium. Scotland will also face Israel in June, having previously secured four wins in as-yet-unspecified locations. Details regarding the venue for those fixtures are still to be confirmed. Scotland previously defeated Israel 5-0 in a neutral venue in Hungary and 4-1 at Hampden in June 2024. The qualification pathway is structured within the UEFA Women’s European Qualifiers framework, with various groups determining which teams advance. Group B4 features Israel and Luxembourg alongside Scotland and Belgium. Other groups include Estonia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania and Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group C1, and Bulgaria, Kosovo, Gibraltar and Croatia in Group C2. Group C3 consists of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania and the Czech Republic, whereas Group C4 includes Turkey, Malta, Switzerland and Northern Ireland.
