Nil Cardona and Ares Torra claimed the top honors in the Senior categories at the Spanish Ski Mountaineering Championships Individual race, held Sunday at the Aramón Panticosa resort in the Aragonese Pyrenees. The competition, part of the XLIII Travesía Club de Montaña Pirineos (CMP), saw over 150 athletes navigate a redesigned course due to challenging snow conditions.
Organizers modified the traditional race route within the Panticosa ski domain to ensure safety, creating a technical and demanding course with over 1,500 meters of accumulated elevation gain. Competitors faced icy conditions resulting from overnight low temperatures, adding to the difficulty of the descents, according to reports from the event.
Cardona secured first place in the Men’s Senior division, finishing with a time of 1:54:37.0. Daniel Izquierdo followed in second place (1:57:27.1), and Albert Ballus rounded out the podium in third (2:00:58.4). Torra continued a successful weekend, adding the Individual championship title to her Vertical race win, completing the course in 1:54:41.1. Uxue Loizu finished second (1:58:06.9), and Claudia Gutiérrez took third (1:59:27.8).
Alongside the national championships, the event also hosted the Aragonese Individual Championship. Dani Izquierdo and Lucía Sevillano were crowned champions in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively. The Copa de España FEDME also concluded at Panticosa, with Izquierdo and Torra also taking the overall titles in the men’s and women’s divisions.
The competition included races across multiple age categories. Claudia Vázquez (1:31:17.2) and Jan Caselles (1:14:47.9) won the U14 category, while Jimena Hidalgo (1:44:42.8) and Martín Agudo (1:26:19.0) triumphed in the U16 division. Mariona Rovira (1:35:52.4) and Pau Baqué (1:10:46.3) secured victory in the U18 category, and Aina Garreta (1:54:53.8) and Gonzalo Casares (1:33:40.7) won in the U20 category. Ares Torra also won the U23 female category with a time of 1:54:41.1.
