Kevin Wolter: From Fitness Empire to Unemployment & TV Comeback

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Kevin Wolter, the former fitness influencer known for his online presence and a published book, is currently relying on unemployment benefits as he participates in the reality television show “Promis unter Palmen” (Celebrities Under Palms). The 38-year-old lost his job at an online brokerage at the end of 2025, a development that followed a period of financial setbacks and a public acknowledgment of his diminished fortune.

Wolter rose to prominence in the German fitness scene, amassing over a million followers across social media platforms, including more than 625,000 subscribers on YouTube. His success was built on offering training advice and sharing personal experiences, including his time serving in the Bundeswehr and struggles with psychological health. In 2020, he released “Beast – How Bodybuilding Saved My Life,” solidifying his position as a leading figure in the industry, with his wealth estimated at several million euros at the time.

However, beginning in 2021, Wolter experienced a significant downturn. Declining viewership and diminishing sponsorship opportunities led to financial losses. He then pursued high-risk investments in an attempt to restore his finances, losing half a million euros in a cryptocurrency project and an additional, unspecified amount in a failed real estate venture. Further compounding his difficulties, loans he extended to friends went unpaid after those relationships dissolved, according to reports.

By early 2025, Wolter publicly admitted to being broke and temporarily without a fixed address. He subsequently secured a position as a marketing manager at an online broker in May 2025, following a period of health issues that required emergency surgery for an intestinal infection. Wolter described the return to a traditional work schedule as a positive step.

This stability proved short-lived. Wolter’s position was eliminated in late 2025 as part of a company restructuring, forcing him to apply for unemployment benefits at the start of 2026. He stated to Bild, a German newspaper, “I live unfortunately currently from unemployment benefits. I know this already, I had this unfortunately several times in life. This time, however, I thought it was finally over.” The opportunity to appear on “Promis unter Palmen” came shortly thereafter.

Media analysts suggest Wolter’s participation in the show is a strategic move to regain public attention and potentially rebuild his career. Wolter has expressed a desire to return to YouTube and demonstrate his ability to overcome adversity. He told Bild that his previous experience with unemployment benefits made him appreciate the financial opportunity offered by the show, stating he could “particularly well utilize the prize money” from “Promis unter Palmen.”

The social media landscape has evolved since Wolter’s initial rise to fame, and his success will depend on his ability to establish a new, authentic persona beyond the image of physical prowess and luxury that previously defined his brand.
