Manchester, N.H. – A city woman, identified as Kayla Marie Smith, 32, is being held at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections after waiving her right to an arraignment Friday on a felony charge of second-degree assault. The charge stems from an incident that occurred Thursday evening, according to Manchester Police Department records.

Smith is currently incarcerated at the Valley Street Jail, located at 445 Willow Street in Manchester, according to officials at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections. The facility, which operates under the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, primarily houses individuals awaiting trial or serving sentences of less than two years. Public hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, though the jail operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Details surrounding the alleged assault remain limited. Police have not released information regarding the victim or the circumstances leading to the charge. Attempts to reach the Manchester Police Department for further comment were not immediately successful.

The Hillsborough County Department of Corrections confirms that inmates are permitted to receive funds through online deposits, kiosks at the facility, or via mail in the form of a money order. Inmates are unable to receive incoming phone calls but may initiate collect calls or utilize a prepaid account. All calls are subject to recording and monitoring.

The Manchester Jail, also known as the Man Detention Center, is a medium-security facility that serves the city of Manchester and surrounding communities. It typically houses individuals facing sentences under one year or those awaiting trial. The Valley Street Jail serves as the primary detention facility for Hillsborough County.

Smith’s next scheduled court appearance has not yet been announced. The Hillsborough County Department of Corrections does not release information regarding visitation schedules without direct inquiry and approval.
