The games, which launched at a price of $19.99 (16.99£ / 19.99€), have sparked debate among fans regarding Nintendo’s decision not to release them as part of the Switch Online subscription service, similar to other classic Pokémon titles. Nintendo previously addressed these concerns in a frequently asked questions section, but explanations have not fully satisfied some players.
Joe Merrick of Serebii.net has offered further insight into the reasoning behind the standalone release, and Nintendo has confirmed compatibility with Pokémon Home. The addition of the Mystic and Aurora Tickets provides further incentive for players to progress through the game and unlock additional content.
The release of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen coincides with celebrations surrounding the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, which were previewed during Super Bowl LVIII. Tracks from both games have also been added to the Nintendo Music streaming service.
