Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese football star, has acquired a 25% stake in Unión Deportiva Almería, a club currently third in Spain’s Liga Hypermotion, the second tier of Spanish football. The investment, announced Thursday, was made through CR7 Sports Investments, a newly formed subsidiary of Ronaldo’s holding company, CR7 SA.

The 41-year-old Ronaldo stated his ambition to contribute to football beyond his playing career, viewing Almería as a club with a “strong base and clear potential for growth.” He intends to collaborate with the existing leadership to support the club’s development, according to a statement released by both Ronaldo and the club.

While the financial details of the investment remain undisclosed, the move signifies Ronaldo’s increasing interest in football club ownership. CR7 Sports Investments will serve as the vehicle for evaluating and pursuing further strategic opportunities in professional sports, the statement indicated.

Mohamed al Khereiji, the president of Almería, expressed his satisfaction with Ronaldo’s decision to invest in the club. He highlighted Ronaldo’s understanding of Spanish football and his recognition of the potential within Almería’s team and youth academy. “He is considered the best on the field, he knows the Spanish leagues very well and understands the potential of what we are building here both in terms of the team and the youth system,” al Khereiji said.

The acquisition comes as Almería aims to secure promotion to La Liga, the top Spanish football league. The club’s current standing in the Liga Hypermotion positions them as strong contenders for advancement. Ronaldo’s investment is expected to provide financial backing and strategic guidance as Almería pursues its goals.

This investment marks a significant step for Ronaldo as an entrepreneur and investor, extending his brand beyond endorsements and onto the ownership side of the sport. The long-term implications of his involvement with Almería remain to be seen, but the move signals a clear commitment to the future of football, both on and off the pitch.
