Darderi Reaches Third Round at Chile Open | 2026 Season Run

Luciano Darderi of Italy advanced to the quarterfinals of the BCI Seguros Chile Open in Santiago on Wednesday, defeating Argentina’s Mariano Navone in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. The match, part of the ATP Tour 250 series, took place at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo.

The 24-year-old Darderi’s victory continues a strong start to the 2026 season for the Italian player, currently ranked 21st in the world as of February 9, 2026. Navone, as well 24, ranked 77th, proved unable to overcome Darderi’s consistent performance. The match lasted two hours and 26 minutes.

Other matches completed on Wednesday saw Yannick Hanfmann of Germany defeat Camilo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina 6-4, 6-3, and Andrea Pellegrino of Italy overcome Francisco Comesana of Argentina in a three-set match, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3. Vilius Gaubas of Lithuania also secured a win against Dino Prižmić, prevailing 7-6, 6-2.

The Chile Open, which returned to the ATP Tour schedule in 2020 after a six-year absence, has previously been won by Chilean players Fernando González (in 2002, 2004, 2008, and 2009), Cristian Garin (2021), and Nicolás Jarry (2023). This year’s tournament runs from February 23rd to March 1st.

Several players have withdrawn from the tournament, including last year’s champion Laslo Djere, who was replaced by Thiago Agustín Tirante. Tomás Martín Etcheverry was replaced by Gaubas, Alexandre Müller by Yannick Hanfmann, Lorenzo Sonego by Vít Kopřiva, and Carlos Taberner by Román Andrés Burruchaga.

The top seed in the tournament is Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo, ranked 19th. Other seeded players include Luciano Darderi (21st), Sebastián Báez (32nd), Camilo Ugo Carabelli (46th), Tomás Martín Etcheverry (51st), Matteo Berrettini (57th), and Francisco Comesaña (63rd). Alejandro Tabilo of Chile is seeded eighth.

Wildcards were awarded to Nicolás Jarry, Francesco Passaro, and Matías Soto. Alex Barrena, Andrea Pellegrino, and Dino Prižmić qualified for the main draw, while Vilius Gaubas entered as a lucky loser.
