Police in Västerbotten County issued fines to multiple drivers during traffic controls conducted on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. One driver traveling on the E4 highway near Alvik, Umeå, received a 2,000 SEK fine for exceeding the speed limit, clocking 91 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, according to police reports.
The traffic controls were part of ongoing police work throughout the county, encompassing areas including Västerbotten, Västra Esplanaden, Stråkvägen, Tomtebo, Järnvägsleden, Hedensbyn, Skellefteå, Sävar, and Umeå Kommun. Police similarly reported activity in Varugatan and across Västerbottens län.
These checks follow a pattern of increased police presence and enforcement in the region. Earlier this week, on February 24th, similar traffic controls were carried out in locations such as Hippologum, Öst På Stan, Ridvägen, Väst På Stan, Finnfors, Bergsbyn, Bogårdsvägen, Sunnanå, and Granbergsvägen. On February 23rd, police conducted traffic enforcement in Älvsbacka and Norrbyn.
Beyond traffic enforcement, police in Västerbotten are also addressing other concerns. An investigation is underway into a suspected rape that occurred in central Skellefteå on January 20th. A man was recently arrested and is being held pending charges related to child pornography, sexual offenses against children, and invasive photography. Police are working with local actors to ensure a safe and orderly lodger hunt, which is scheduled to begin soon.
On February 25th, police responded to a disturbance at Östra station in Umeå, resulting in the detention of an intoxicated individual under the Law on Care of Intoxicated Persons (LOB). The police continue to seek information regarding a suspected violent crime in Skellefteå from January 30th.
Recent collaborative efforts between the police and local communities in the Umeå area have led to new citizen pledges and cooperation agreements aimed at enhancing public safety and preventative measures. The police are also actively recruiting officers and encouraging the public to report information regarding criminal activity.
