by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

The Steam Next Fest is currently underway, featuring a playable demo of Well Keeper, a new roguelike shooter developed by a currently unnamed studio. The game centers around a mouse living inside a shoe at the bottom of a well, tasked with defending its home from invading insects and monstrous creatures.

Well Keeper distinguishes itself with a distinct bullet-hell aesthetic, requiring players to navigate tight spaces and dodge dense patterns of projectiles. Players control the mouse, who possesses the ability to manipulate lightning as a primary defensive and offensive tool. The gameplay, as showcased during the festival, emphasizes skillful maneuvering and precise timing to survive the onslaught of enemies.

The Steam Next Fest provides a platform for developers to showcase upcoming titles and gather player feedback. XFastest News reports that the event is attracting significant attention, with Well Keeper being highlighted as a standout title. XFastest News also reported on February 20, 2026, that Qualcomm may be offering greater flexibility in storage options for its next generation Snapdragon 8 chip, potentially impacting future game development and performance on mobile platforms. This development, whereas separate from Well Keeper, underscores the ongoing evolution of gaming hardware.

Another game featured by XFastest News is the free-to-play cooperative title, With You, a hand-drawn, cute-style game designed for two players. This title, highlighted in a recent YouTube short from XFNews, demonstrates the diversity of games being showcased during the festival.

As of today, February 24, 2026, the duration of the Steam Next Fest and the full release date for Well Keeper remain unconfirmed.
