Nick Reiner: Not Guilty Plea in Parents’ Stabbing Deaths | Murder Case Updates

Nick Reiner, the son of director Rob Reiner and singer Michele Singer, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents, according to multiple news reports.

The plea was entered in Los Angeles County Superior Court, as confirmed by The New York Times, The Washington Post, PBS, and ABC7 Los Angeles. Reiner is accused of fatally stabbing his parents at their home in Beverly Hills on January 16, 2026.

Authorities were initially called to the Reiner residence for a welfare check, leading to the discovery of Rob and Michele Reiner’s bodies. Nick Reiner was subsequently taken into custody. The cause of death has not yet been officially released, as the autopsies were still pending as of Tuesday, according to reporting from People.com.

Jerry O’Connell, who starred alongside Rob Reiner’s son in the 1986 film “Stand By Me,” described the situation as “emotional” and expressed hope that the legal proceedings would not devolve into a “circus,” as reported by Deadline.

The court filing indicates Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder. A date for a preliminary hearing has not yet been set, and Reiner remains in custody. His legal representation has not yet issued a public statement beyond the not-guilty plea.

The case has drawn significant media attention due to the prominence of Rob Reiner, known for directing films such as “This Is Spinal Tap” and “When Harry Met Sally,” and his long career in Hollywood. Michele Singer is also a well-known singer.
