AJK Set to Launch 5G Services Next Month

Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir – Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore announced Monday that 5G services will be rolled out across the territory beginning March 10th, characterizing the move as a pivotal step in the region’s digital evolution.

Rathore stated that prioritizing digital infrastructure aligned with contemporary needs is a core tenet of his administration. The introduction of 5G, he explained, is intended to usher in a new phase of rapid internet connectivity, enhanced educational opportunities, improved healthcare access through telehealth, modernized governance systems and a strengthened digital economy.

According to the Prime Minister’s office, trial operations are scheduled to commence imminently, following the issuance of a policy letter outlining the framework for implementation. Rathore emphasized the initiative’s importance in connecting AJK’s youth population with the global digital sphere.

“5G is not merely the speed of the internet; it is the speed of development, employment and prosperity,” Rathore remarked. He further underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to digital advancements throughout AJK, with the goal of extending benefits to both urban centers and rural communities.

The announcement comes amidst political maneuvering within AJK, as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have jointly signed a no-trust motion against the current AJK Prime Minister, according to reports from Daily Times. The motion’s implications for the 5G rollout remain unclear.

Rathore’s administration believes the new technology will stimulate economic activity, broaden opportunities in the information technology and freelance sectors, and facilitate direct engagement between AJK’s skilled workforce and international markets. The AJK cabinet was recently assigned portfolios, signaling a continuation of governmental functions despite the political challenges.
