An Airbus A380-800, operated by Qantas, landed at São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) on Sunday, February 22, 2026, completing the first non-stop commercial flight between Sydney, Australia, and São Paulo, Brazil. The flight, QF6043, touched down at 23:20 local time after a journey of approximately 14 hours and 49 minutes, according to reports.
The arrival of the A380, the world’s largest passenger airliner, drew significant attention from aviation enthusiasts, with numerous individuals tracking the flight in real-time and gathering to observe its landing. The aircraft, a Qantas A380-800 with registration VH-OQA, had departed Sydney at 08:30 local time on Sunday.
Even as Qantas has previously operated Boeing 747 freighters to Brazil, this marks the first time the airline has brought its A380 fleet to São Paulo. The Airbus A380 previously operated commercially in Brazil in 2016, when Air France utilized the aircraft during the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
The Qantas flight’s purpose remains officially undisclosed. Reports suggest the flight was chartered to transport personnel and equipment for Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny’s tour to Australia. Qantas has not released details regarding the nature of the operation, and the aircraft departed São Paulo at 05:50 on Monday, February 23, returning to Sydney.
The Airbus A380-800 has a length of approximately 73 meters and a wingspan of nearly 80 meters. We see capable of carrying over 850 passengers, depending on the airline’s configuration. The aircraft is a significant asset for Qantas, as it was the first A380 delivered to the airline’s fleet in 2008.
Currently, Emirates operates daily flights between Dubai and São Paulo using the Airbus A380. Qantas has not announced any plans to establish a regular commercial route between Sydney and São Paulo at this time.
