Los Angeles, CA – Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of director Rob Reiner and photographer Michelle Singer, pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder on Monday, February 23, 2026, in connection with the December 14, 2025, deaths of his parents. The plea was entered at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, where Reiner faces a potential sentence of life in prison or the death penalty.
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michelle Singer, 68, were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home. Their daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered the bodies, according to reports from December 2025. Police responding to the scene found no signs of forced entry.
“I did not kill my parents,” Nick Reiner stated during the arraignment, according to multiple news reports. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has expressed confidence in securing a conviction, stating that a Los Angeles jury will uncover Reiner guilty “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Authorities arrested Nick Reiner shortly after the bodies were discovered. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be multiple stab wounds. Documents related to the investigation were initially sealed at the request of investigators.
The preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 29th. Reiner is currently being held without bail. Prosecutors are still evaluating whether to seek the death penalty, and have begun a process of consulting with the victims’ family regarding their wishes. Sources close to the family indicate that relatives are not in favor of pursuing capital punishment.
The case has drawn significant attention, particularly given Rob Reiner’s prominent career as a director of films such as “When Harry Met Sally…” and “Stand By Me.” Police previously confirmed that Nick Reiner had a history of drug dependence and mental health issues.
Hochman stated after Monday’s hearing that the legal process could be lengthy, pending the final report from the medical examiner and any further expert testimony requested by the defense.
