BAFTA 2024: Red Carpet Fashion – Stars Shine in Dark Hues & Dramatic Styles

London’s Royal Festival Hall hosted the 79th British Academy Film Awards on Sunday evening, an event widely considered the most stylish film event after the Oscars. The ceremony underscored the prestige of the British Academy Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards as a key indicator of cinematic achievement.

A darker color palette dominated the fashion choices on the red carpet, with burgundy and black proving particularly popular among attendees. Leading fashion houses – Dolce&Gabbana, Gucci, Chanel and Dior – were prominently featured in the evening’s ensembles. Men largely opted for classic tuxedos with modern variations in cut, lapel style, and fabric texture. Women favored long evening gowns, showcasing a range of silhouettes from plunging necklines and bare shoulders to dramatic trains, alongside more minimalist designs. Luxurious fabrics, delicate embroidery, and sheer panels added to the sense of glamour, complemented by statement jewelry and carefully chosen accessories.

Among the stars in attendance were Emma Stone, Kate Hudson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jessie Buckley, Tayana Taylor, Timothée Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan, Carey Mulligan, and Rose Byrne. Each offered a unique interpretation of red carpet style.

The awards themselves followed a pattern of recognition for significant cinematic work. According to reports, “The Zone of Interest” received the most awards, totaling six from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. The film, a political satire directed by Paul Thomas, garnered critical acclaim for its stark portrayal of its subject matter.

The 79th BAFTA awards took place after the 97th Academy Awards ceremony was held on March 2, 2025, according to the official Academy Awards website. The awards are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, an organization with 9,905 voting members as of 2025.
