The second part of Bridgerton’s fourth season will arrive on Netflix February 26th at midnight PT/3 a.m. ET, continuing the story of Benedict Bridgerton’s burgeoning romance with Sophie Baek. The first four episodes, released January 29th, introduced Sophie, a maid working in the household of Lady Araminta Gun, and hinted at a connection with Benedict sparked at a masquerade ball.
Sophie Baek, portrayed by Yerin Ha, is a character whose background significantly deviates from the typical societal expectations within the Regency-era world depicted in the series. Born as the illegitimate daughter of Lord Penwood and one of his maids, she was raised as his ward after her mother’s death, a situation considered scandalous at the time. According to the Bridgerton Wiki, Lord Penwood never publicly acknowledged Sophie, and after his marriage to Araminta Gun, Sophie was forbidden to refer to him as her father in Araminta’s presence.
The Netflix adaptation of Sophie’s story, changing her surname from Beckett to Baek to honor actress Yerin Ha’s Korean heritage, emphasizes her position outside the established “Ton” and the hardships she has faced. Following Lord Penwood’s death, Sophie was left in the care of Araminta Gun, tasked with numerous household duties and denied the educational opportunities afforded to Araminta’s daughters, Rosamund and Posy.
The season’s narrative draws inspiration from Julia Quinn’s novel, An Offer From a Gentleman, and presents a Cinderella-esque dynamic between Benedict and Sophie. Luke Thompson stars as Benedict, while Katie Leung plays Lady Araminta Gun. The cast also includes Michelle Mao and Isabella Wei as Rosamund and Posy, respectively.
Netflix offers multiple subscription tiers, including an ad-supported plan for $8 per month, Standard for $18 per month, and Premium for $25 per month. The availability of all titles, including Bridgerton and its spin-off, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, may vary depending on the chosen plan due to licensing restrictions. The Standard and Premium plans offer ad-free streaming and allow for multiple simultaneous streams and downloads.
Returning cast members alongside Thompson, Ha, and Leung include Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley as Anthony and Kate Bridgerton, Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan as Colin and Penelope Featherington, and Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton. Adjoa Andoh will reprise her role as Lady Danbury, with Golda Rosheuvel continuing as Queen Charlotte. Julie Andrews provides the voice of Lady Whistledown.
