A resourceful remote-control vehicle enthusiast has built a custom four-wheel-drive (4WD) “basher” utilizing four direct-drive rad motors, a project documented on YouTube and gaining traction within the RC community. The creator reportedly began collecting parts for the build approximately two years ago, with initial progress showcased in a recent online video.
The appeal of “basher” RC trucks lies in their durability and ability to withstand rough terrain and aggressive driving, designed for off-road recreation involving jumps, crashes, and demanding use. The 4WD configuration enhances traction and stability, making these vehicles suitable for challenging environments.
Interest in the basher RC truck market is demonstrably growing. In July 2024, Redcat released the Valkyrie 4S MT, a 4WD ready-to-run truck currently available for around $300. The vehicle is undergoing review by RC enthusiasts to assess its performance and value. ARRMA, a popular RC brand, also features the ARES-1 Street Basher, which utilizes a brushless motor and a 4WD system powered by a LiPo battery. The FMS FMT10 4×4, a 1/10 scale monster truck, was released in August 2025.
The Youtuber’s custom build employs a direct-drive system, connecting the motor directly to the wheels without a gearbox – a less common approach that may offer unique performance characteristics. A German RC enthusiast forum noted the project, highlighting the Youtuber’s undertaking and encouraging others to view the results online.
