Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky, will host the $175,000 John Battaglia Memorial Stakes on Saturday, offering a significant step toward the Kentucky Derby for three-year-old thoroughbreds. The race awards points to the top five finishers: 20 for first, 10 for second, 6 for third, 4 for fourth and 2 for fifth.

Among the contenders is Time for Money, a three-year-old gelding owned by J. Lester Wagner and trained by John Ennis. Bred in Kentucky by Ramspring Farm LLC, Time for Money is sired by Not This Time and out of the Street Sense mare Free Money. The horse has already raced at Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Kentucky Downs, and Turfway Park, demonstrating versatility across different track conditions.

Time for Money’s recent performances include a fourth-place finish in a race at Turfway Park on December 27, 2025, and a sixth-place finish at Churchill Downs on November 21, 2025. However, the gelding secured a victory at Churchill Downs on October 26, 2025, in a Maiden Special Weight race. Earlier that month, on October 5th, Time for Money finished fourth at Keeneland.

According to data from Sky Racing World, Time for Money was born in the United States in 2023. Wagner is part of a racing partnership that includes Blinkers On Racing Stable, Janlois Racing, LLC, and Valinor Racing Stable, LLC, along with Tom Corbett and Andy Kwan. This partnership reported $273,000 in earnings during 2025, representing 43% of their total lifetime earnings of $283,080.

The Battaglia Memorial Stakes is a key race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, and a strong showing from Time for Money could significantly improve his chances of qualifying for the prestigious event. The outcome of Saturday’s race will determine which horses continue to vie for a spot in the Kentucky Derby starting gate.
