A 10-year-old boy died on the Spanish island of Tenerife after being attacked with a machete, according to reports from local authorities. The incident occurred in the night of Thursday into Friday in Cabo Blanco, near the tourist area of Los Cristianos.

The boy’s mother was also seriously injured during the attack and remains in critical condition in hospital, officials stated. Police responded to reports of a man armed with a weapon around 1:00 AM. Upon arrival, the father reportedly acted aggressively towards the responding officers and attacked one of them, leading to police firing at the man, who died at the scene.

The Guardia Civil are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, but the motive remains unknown.

Recent incidents involving machetes have been reported elsewhere in the Netherlands. On Friday, three teenagers, aged 14 and 15, were arrested in connection with attempted robbery, with one of them found to be carrying a machete. In Schiedam, a 15-year-old boy was apprehended on Sunday evening with a 50-centimeter machete concealed in his waistband after a traveler on a train alerted police.
