Rotterdam Shooting: Man Dead, Police Expand Search & Suspect Criminal Link

A 34-year-old man died Thursday evening following a shooting in Rotterdam’s Delfshaven district, prompting a manhunt for two suspects who fled the scene in a black car, police reported.

The victim, identified as a resident of Capelle aan den IJssel, was found injured in the entryway of a building on Indrapoerastraat around 4:50 PM local time. Emergency services attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to statements released by both the Rotterdam police and Rijnmond.nl.

Authorities stated the shooting followed a verbal altercation on the street. Police are currently seeking witnesses and requesting anyone with relevant camera footage to come forward. A search is underway for the two suspects and the vehicle they used to escape.

“Unfortunately, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the victim has died. We wish the bereaved much strength,” the Rotterdam Police Unit stated on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Investigators discovered bullet casings at the scene, according to 112-correspondents and Hart van Nederland. The incident is the latest in a series of shootings in the Rotterdam area in recent weeks, including a 19-year-old man who died following a shooting incident earlier this month, and a separate shooting in Den Hoorn in January, according to NOS.

Police have not released further details regarding the nature of the argument that preceded the shooting, or any potential motives. The investigation is ongoing.
