Two vehicles collided on National Route 22 near Zapala, Neuquén Province, Argentina, on Tuesday afternoon, causing traffic delays. A Renault Logan impacted the rear of a Fiat Palio while both were traveling in the same direction toward Neuquén capital, according to reports.
The incident occurred in the exit area of Zapala, a region experiencing heavy traffic due to the ongoing Carnival holiday weekend. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the collision, which resulted in significant material damage to both vehicles. Both cars remained blocking the roadway for a period of time.
Personnel from the Neuquén Provincial Police and traffic safety officials responded to the scene to manage traffic flow and investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Members of the Integrated Emergency System of Neuquén (SIEN) were similarly dispatched to assist those involved, though initial reports indicate no injuries were sustained.
Officials are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution while traveling on Route 22, particularly in areas near towns and cities, and to maintain safe following distances. The recommendation comes as large numbers of vehicles return home at the end of the long weekend.
A separate incident occurred on the same day in Rincón de los Sauces, involving a truck carrying fuel that overturned near the town’s roundabout. Firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 7:15 PM local time. The truck, belonging to the Kompass company, was transporting diesel fuel. A preventative operation was established to ensure safety due to the risk posed by the fuel. Firefighters and company personnel worked to upright the vehicle, with assistance from police, environmental officials, and civil defense authorities.
